FOTD 9.27.11 Tarte for True Blood (2)

This one is called "Vamp Glam." I used the mini tutorial that was included in the palette.

I used a little more blush than normal. I wouldn't go out with this much blush. I don't really like wearing blush, I've just recently started wearing it again. I'm still trying to get used to it. I also used a highlighter for the cheek bone.

Face:
Claudia Steven Primer (from Sally's beauty)
NYC Smooth SKin Liquid Make up (foundation) - nude
Maybelline Cover Stick - (under my eyes) fair
Sally Girl Highlighter - cheek bones
WnW Blush - 832E
Rimmel Stay Matte pressed powder

Eyes:
Tarte for True Blood palette - telepath, Fairy, "V"
Femme Couture gel liner (I HATE the eyeliner that came with the Tarte palette.)

Lips:
Boots UK generic lip gloss, no name on it

I didn't use the eyeliner that came with the palette because I hate it. Its too soft for my liking. I feel like it has a mind of its own. I can't get it to go where I want it. Maybe its just me. I really like my Femme Couture gel liner (You can get it at Sally's Beauty Supply). I apply it with any black pencil liner for the water line especially. I also use a liner brush to apply it. Both work well.
Hope you like these True Blood looks! Let me know!!

FOTD 9.26.11 Tarte for True Blood (1)

I have the best hubby ever! He bought me the Tarte for True Blood palette. Its beautiful! I'm going to do swatches and a review. I should have swatches by the end of the week and I want to use the palette a little before I do a review so that will come in a week or so.

The palette comes with a card board insert that has 4 mini tutorials. Today I did "Luminous Fairy". Its very subtle, more subtle that I expected but its OK because I have to work today. Not that that's ever stopped me from doing anything crazy before. Anyway, here's the look. The pics are a little dark, sorry!

FOTD 9/21/11 (pic heavy)

This is my Face of the Day today. I love blue eyeshadow and a nice way to be able to pull it off for everyday wear is to pair it with a more neutral color, like brown. Under the pictures I'll post the products used.

Eyes:
NYX Pro Make up Kit
ELF Cream eye liner - brown
Maybelline Colossal mascara - brown (I used about 3 coats)

Face:
Boots No7 Mousse Foundation - New Ivory
ELF Mattifying Translucent powder

This is the NYX Kit that I used for eyes, blush and lip gloss:

Back to Basics: Foundation (Includes pictures)

I recently realized that there are some people out there who don't have the slightest clue about make up and are maybe overwhelmed by the idea of it, but they really want to wear it. This could apply to anyone, old or young. So I thought that as my first post it would be fitting to start at the beginning. At the beginning of most things there is a foundation and its the same for make up. You want your face to be ready for the make up you are about to apply. You want your make up to look its best so foundation is essential (for most people) as a first step. Some very lucky people have perfect skin and don't use foundation so I guess this particular post would not be for those people. Foundation is primarily used to even out skin tone and to cover flaws in the skin.

BEFORE FOUNDATION:

1) How do I find my foundation color? The most common mistake is using the back of your hand. Your hand is usually darker than your face so you should always look at the color on the jaw line.

2) What do I use to apply my foundation? I use a damp cosmetic sponge or wedge. (Note: You should never use them dry. Also, if you wash them with warm water and mild soap after use, you can use them a few times.)  Some people use a foundation brush, whatever works for you.

3) I put some "globs" of foundation on my face:

4) Then I just pat it out (or stipple) to blend:

After foundation:

You can see that there is a definite difference and my skin tone look a lot more even with foundation. I used Boots No7 mousse foundation.

You can use a stippling brush or foundation brush to apply as well. (Stipple = to apply in dots or short strokes.)

Please keep in mind, this is the BASICS of foundation, there are different kinds of foundation, numerous brands and what not. You just have to experiment and find out whats best for you. I suggest going somewhere like Ulta or Sephora (or anywhere with a make up counter) so you can try a variety of foundations without having to buy loads of them. For more detailed information you can visit:  Wikipedia: Founadtion (cosmetics)

I hope this has been helpful. Please feel free to comment with any questions and thanks for reading!
